Global initiatives: Canada: Mentoring Connections

Connecting women to senior mentors

Our Canadian firm is helping its women succeed through a unique programme designed to facilitate one-on-one mentoring by PwC partners.

Mentoring connections is aimed at helping senior women reach their potential and at creating a larger pool of females who are interested in, and positioned for, advancement to partner and leadership roles.

The programme formalises a process for achievement-focused women to gain access to mentors in senior ranks at PwC. Since it was launched in March 2007, 90 women have been matched with mentors.

The purpose of the programme, which is available to all female partners and senior managers and is running for one year as a pilot, is to help women self-identify career ambitions early enough and engage in appropriate personal development to achieve their career goals.

Through a dedicated database, PwC women can register interest in the programme and select potential mentors by browsing through a list of mentor profiles. Once they are matched with their mentors, mentees drive the process by establishing goals and timelines.

Mentors can offer invaluable support such as:

  • Opening doors of opportunity.
  • Helping to assess readiness for career progression and creating a personal development path.
  • Sharing knowledge and experience on becoming and being a leader at PwC.
