The project is a part of the Governance Programme of the UNDP in Moldova. It is designed to contribute to the decentralization and strengthening of the local governance through localization of Sustainable Development (SD) process, by building the local government’s capacity in participatory development management, fostering the synergic effect of Millennium Development Goals, Poverty Reduction Strategy Papers and SD principles in policy formulation, decision-making and implementation both at national and local levels. The project created an integrity matrix for the prior and on-going assistance in the areas of good governance, anticorruption, development planning, poverty reduction, gender equity, access to IT and decision-making, etc.

The project in Tajikistan required PricewaterhouseCoopers to assist UNOPS in the second phase of its rehabilitation, reconstruction and development programme in Tajikistan, focusing primarily on sustainable economic development. The main focus of the second phase of the rehabilitation, reconstruction and development programme was to further strengthen peace and stability in Tajikistan by supporting local governance and the strengthening of decision-making mechanisms, promoting a sustainable local economic environment, and supporting conflict prevention activities.
