Recent tax controversy reforms in Spain may result in both benefits and burdens for taxpayers

Tax Controversy & Dispute Resolution ()

Spain has either enacted or in the process of enacting various tax controversy reforms further evidencing the increasingly dynamic nature of the global tax audit and controversy landscape. The most significant reforms put forth in 2012 are indicative of the growing trend for governments to pursue greater cross-border information exchange, anti- fraud measures, and more potent enforcement efforts to obtain additional revenues. These reforms may present additional burdens for taxpayers but may also include potential benefits for those taxpayers wanting to avoid potential interest, penalties, and surcharges.
