Global Reporting Initiative
Background
The
Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) is a multi-stakeholder process and independent institution whose mission is to develop and disseminate globally applicable sustainability reporting guidelines. These guidelines are for voluntary use by organisations for reporting on the economic, environmental, and social dimensions of their operations.
As of September 2003, the total number of known organisations that referred to or followed the sustainability reporting guidelines in preparing their sustainability, social, or environmental report has surpassed 300 in 30 countries.
PwC involvement
PwC has been involved in the GRI since 1998. We strongly support the development of sustainability reporting guidelines. For 2002/2003, our support included joining a small group of companies providing financial support toward the establishment of the GRI's permanent secretariat.
