Case study: Corporate social responsibility strategy
The issue
The client, a US-based multinational food & beverage company, faced the ongoing challenge of reporting to the marketplace its economic, environmental and social performance. In addition, the client was considering whether and how to transition from its current reporting framework to a reporting framework consistent with Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) guidelines.
Our approach
To help, a team of PricewaterhouseCoopers professionals:
- Assisted the client in understanding current GRI reporting requirements
- Mapped the company's current reporting to the GRI requirements
- Conducted a detailed gap analysis of the company's current reporting framework relative to GRI requirements
- Recommended steps to bridge the identified gaps
- Developed a detailed work plan for transitioning the company’s reporting to GRI guidelines.
The outcome
By moving the client’s reporting to GRI guidelines the company will strengthen its position as a leader on sustainability issues while increasing the transparency of its sustainability-related reporting processes and controls. As a further benefit, our work provided the company with the tools needed to streamline and automate its sustainability data tracking and reporting mechanisms.
