The issue

The client, a large multinational diversified energy company, wanted the assurance opinion of a qualified and credible outside party with respect to the quality of the sustainability information that they report to shareholders.

Our approach

A multidisciplinary team of PricewaterhouseCoopers auditors and sustainable development professionals performed assurance testing of the client’s reporting. The approach was rigorous, applying the International Standard on Assurance Engagements 3000. Assurance was provided over the client’s health, safety and environment data as well as other non-financial information including social and economic data and case studies.

The outcome

Management fully recognized the value provided by PricewaterhouseCoopers’ assurance. Weaknesses in systems and processes were identified, and ways to improve the quality of reported data were recommended. Among segments of the stakeholder community, trust of the company’s reporting was strengthened.
