The issue

The company was seeking independent assurance for its management system, as well as external reporting on its global Corporate Citizenship activities and program – incorporating Health, Safety and Environmental performance (HSE), Human Resources (HR), Social Responsibilities and Code of Conduct (CoC).

Our approach

PwC developed and tailored an assurance concept to meet the clients’ needs. Our review procedures included:

• Interviewing personnel at the group level;
• Visiting country and business unit headquarters and conducting interviews with selected personnel in seven different countries;
• Analysing documents and performing tests, on a sample basis, on internal management and reporting structures; and
• Performing tests, on a sample basis, of evidence supporting selected HSE parameters with regard to the reported data aggregation from eight selected production sites to group level.

The outcome

Our work resulted in an Assurance Report being published in the company’s Annual Report and on its Website with regard to its Corporate Citizenship activities and program. The company also received a management letter from us detailing our findings, potential associated risks, as well as recommendations for improvement.
