A global oil & gas company

The issue

This company wanted to devise a climate change strategy which would reduce its emissions of greenhouse gases.

Our approach

Over the last three years, PwC's sustainability solutions group has provided a range of advice in connection with the design and implementation of the climate change strategy. For this company:

  • PwC provided advice on the design of an internal emissions trading scheme;
  • The emission trading scheme was being expanded to include emission savings from outside existing operations, so PwC advised how to include credits from external projects and how external credits should be treated in corporate level emission accounts;
  • The work involved evaluating a number of different projects, examining the implications of various baseline, additional assumptions for project economics, and developing internal guidelines for project developers.

The outcome

The client implemented a leading edge emissions trading scheme. This allowed the company to reduce emissions and demonstrate to stakeholders its commitment to the environment. The completed work, including the establishment of internal guidelines for project developers, helped the client achieve this with the most beneficial financial impact.
