The client, a leading building and public works company, was preparing to sell its international waste and water management subsidiary. PricewaterhouseCoopers was asked to undertake a due diligence under severe time constraints.

- Reviewed the various contracts held by the company (which operated under more than 7000 delegated water services contracts or concessions) in order to understand the level of responsibilities borne by the company
- Reviewed management’s environmental health and safety and quality systems
- Identified and assessed the cost of compliance with current and future regulations
- Analysed alternative methods of waste elimination
- Assessed the possible site-specific environmental risks associated with closure operations
- Identified potential environmental liabilities related to soil and ground water contamination
