The Belgian federal government faced the requirement of “transposing” into domestic law the European parliament’s Directive 2003/30/EC, which promotes the consumption of bio fuels. In order to help define how the directive might be implemented across Belgium, PricewaterhouseCoopers was engaged to undertake a high level analysis of the marketplace opportunities and challenges associated with the introduction of bio fuels.
PricewaterhouseCoopers analysis included a review of both world and local Belgian markets for bio diesel and bio ethanol. Additionally, existing bio fuel market mechanisms in other EU states were analyzed and stakeholder views were surveyed. Finally, options for transposing the Directive were proposed and ranked according to agreed criteria.
In relying on PricewaterhouseCoopers global perspective, the client was able to arrive at a fully informed decision regarding the option that best fit their national needs.
