Our client wanted to understand its exposure to environmental taxes globally, and what incentives were available to them in the various jurisdictions in which it operates.
We carried out an analysis of the environmental taxes paid and incentives available to the company in numerous countries across Europe. We advised the client on how to proactively engage with policymakers on incentives, and also helped to design and develop an in-house environmental tax management structure.
The client obtained a level of oversight of the total environmental taxes paid by the company. This put it in a better position to manage associated risks and take advantage of available incentives. With our assistance, the organisation now has a functioning in-house structure for managing environmental taxes and incentives globally.
Although our client included tax payments in its sustainability report, these were just corporate tax payments and the company felt that this was only part of the picture.
We briefed the company on the Total Tax Contribution (TTC) methodology, prepared a customised data collection template, reviewed and raised comments on the completed templates, and prepared an output report.
Our client used our report to brief internal management on the tax payments made by the company and is considering extending its current sustainability reporting to include TTC.
