The future of retirement in a transforming workplace

People are living longer, healthier lives, but this brings with it a number of challenges. A public debate is required, alongside co-ordinated action from Government, employers and the financial services industry.

Recent UK public policies for the management of longevity have rightly focused on balancing the fiscal sustainability and the income adequacy of public and private pensions provision.

However, there is increasing evidence that the nature of retirement is changing, as a consequence of a variety of social, economic and occupational factors.

This report contributes to the public debate of how to take advantage of the opportunities offered by our ageing society and the emerging 'wellderly' generation, by looking in detail at the implications of these challenges and practical solutions for Government, employers and financial services providers.
