The lack of qualified staff in the ambulant and non-ambulant health segment by 2030

The health system in Germany at its current state will not be sustainable in the future. This is less a result of rising costs caused by demographic change and medical progress but rather a consequence of the lack of specifically trained staff. This study conducted by PwC Germany in cooperation with the WifOR Research Institute in Darmstadt uses a sophisticated model to analyze the trend in employment of medical and non-medical staff in ambulant and non-ambulant health facilities in the German health sector over the coming years. The results show that there will be a dramatic gap of trained staff between 2020 and 2030 that could not only lead to a dramatic deterioration of the existing health care system but also to significant economic losses.
