Crime rate in the public sector, 2010

Corruption, certificate offences, anticompetitive agreements, economic subsidy fraud and other criminal offences are no isolated cases in the German public sector. Every year, they cause an estimated damage of 2 billion Euros. The importance of this topic and the lack of statistical data provided the motivation for PwC to conduct a large survey interviewing more than 500 relevant people in municipal administrations, state and federal authorities as well as a representative sample of 1,000 people about their perception of crime in the public administration.

The result shows in much detail where corruption occurs and provides recommendations how public authorities can disclose criminal offences at an early stage.
