
Donald A. McGovern, Jr. (Don) is Vice Chairman, Global Assurance an appointment he took up on 1 July 2008. Prior to his current role, Mr. McGovern was the Vice Chairman for Client Services for the New York Metro Region of PricewaterhouseCoopers’ US firm. He had been the Managing Partner of the US firm's Silicon Valley Office in San Jose from July 2001 to June 2007. In addition, he was, from 1 July 2001 to 30 June 2008, a member of, and past lead director for, the US Board of Partners and Principals of the US firm as well as a member of PwC’s Global Board. He is by background a High Technology Industry Assurance partner and served as the Global Engagement Partner (GEP) and lead assurance partner for Cisco Systems, Inc. Prior to Cisco Systems, he was the GEP and lead assurance partner for Applied Materials (semiconductor equipment) and Schlumberger Ltd. (oil field services and technology) and has served numerous other public companies as Quality Review Partner including Hewlett-Packard, Nvidia, eBay and Varian Medical.
Mr. McGovern has 38 years experience with PwC and has held various leadership roles at PwC’s US firm. He was the Regional Managing Partner for the Assurance practice for the New York Metro Region and a member of the US Assurance Leadership Team (July 1997 to March 2001); US Managing Partner for the Technology Industry Group and a member of the National Leadership Team (July 1995 to June 1997); and the Office Managing Partner for San Jose (January 1994 to June 1997). Mr. McGovern joined in Chicago on 1 July 1974. In 1982, he transferred to the National Technical Office in New York, where he served a two-year tour in the US firm's Auditing Methods Group, returning to Chicago in 1984. In July 1987, Mr. McGovern was admitted to partnership in the US firm and relocated to the US firm's San Jose office.
In addition to directing the US firm's services for large public company clients mentioned above, he has extensive securities experience related to initial public offerings (IPO) and other SEC registration statements, mergers and acquisitions, restructurings and divestitures, and the adoption and implementation of complex accounting standards. He has been the engagement partner on over 20 Silicon Valley IPOs and concurring partner on at least 15 other IPOs. In addition, he has assisted clients in over 10 merger and acquisition transactions in the past five years with an emphasis on due diligence, business issues, acquisition recording and reporting.
Mr. McGovern is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the California and Illinois societies of CPAs. He is licensed to practice in California, Illinois and New York. He has served on various non-for-profit charitable organisation boards within the past 10 years.
Mr. McGovern holds a master's degree in business administration, which he received from DePaul University in 1975, and a bachelor's of arts degree in history and political science, which he earned from Marquette University in 1972. He also attended the Executive Program for Growing Companies of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business in 1992.
