HIV and AIDS in the workplace — in Namibia

Following earlier work done in Uganda, PwC Namibia worked with the Namibia Business Coalition on AIDS to promote the prevention and treatment of the disease within the business sector.

As an organisation deeply rooted in the Namibian culture, PwC has a network that spans the private sector, parastatals, government, civil society and the development partners operating in the country. As a result, PwC was able leverage this network to complete a study aimed at finding out how organisations were responding to the epidemic, and how their responses might be improved and strengthened.

The statistics in Namibia are disconcerting: they reveal a national prevalence rate higher than the 5.9 percent rate in the Southern Africa region rate, and a rate of 19.9 for pregnant women attending antenatal clinics, higher than in 2004.
