Mark Lobel is principal with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and an internationally recognized security professional with experience designing, benchmarking, and assessing organizational security technologies and strategies. With over 14 years experience in information security and controls, Mark is the global PwC subject matter expert on security benchmarking and is a frequent speaker on benchmarking and other topics for the MIS Training Institute, The Information Security Forum (ISF) CSI, SHARE, ISSA, IBM Training, Vanguard and ISACA. Mark is the lead PwC security professional on PricewaterhouseCoopers’ annual Global Security Survey with CIO and CSO magazines and Mark has been the lead agent for the North American Chapter of the Information Security Forum (ISF) for over ten years. For the last three years, Mark has been on the ISACA Security Management Task force, a small group advising ISACA on their direction in the security space.
Mark’s security project experience includes the development and implementation of IT and enterprise security architectures, including organizational structure, policies, procedures, identity management and technical standards. He has completed multiple SAS No. 70 reports for organizations across industries, and particularly in the telecommunications and financial services arena. As a principal with the firm focused on information security, Mark leads teams of PwC security professionals in engagements with Fortune 500 companies around the world.
An experienced speaker, Mark has regularly presented at major public security conferences on many areas of information security, including Security Architectures, Identity Management, Windows, UNIX, Organizational Risk Management, Security Strategy, Security Benchmarking, and Penetration Testing. He has written and/or edited numerous white papers on security, including “On being e-safe: The importance of benchmarking your security processes” and “The Case for Strong User Authentication.” He has been quoted in many publications, including The Wall Street Journal, Investors Business Daily, Information Week, Computerworld, Newsday, CRN, Network World and Baseline. His television appearances include CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, CNBC, and PBS American Consumer.
Mark is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), and a Certified Information Security Manager (CISM). Mark is also a member of the ISACA CISM Task Force helping guide the development of this new security certification. His association memberships include the New York Chapter of the Information Security Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and the New York Chapter of the Information Systems Security Association (ISSA). He is a cum laude graduate of Boston University and received a Bachelors degree in broadcast communications from Oswego State.
