Helping economic take off: Devolving Air Passenger Duty

The NI Futures series, examines a range of public policy issues that are central to Northern Ireland's future prosperity and well-being. This edition discusses the effects of the Chancellor's Autumn Statement on 29 November, which confirmed a substantial rise in Air Passenger Duty (APD) in 2012, and what the future for the Northern Ireland leisure and business travel will be.

Given the impact of APD on the competitiveness and growth prospects of the Northern Ireland economy, the APD debate is of vital significance and should be treated as equally important to our economic future as the current debate on devolving Corporation Tax.
