Harnessing Public Private Cooperation to Deliver the New Urban Agenda

Inclusive and sustainable growth is vital for social harmony and equity among city inhabitants. The New Urban Agenda, recently adopted at Habitat III in Quito, sets out the key priorities and goals for holistic urban development.

However, lack of sufficient public funds, limited capabilities and unclear governance structures often hinder the realization of a city’s vision for sustainable urban development. Collaboration of all stakeholders is fundamental as government entities alone cannot address the growing urbanisation challenges.

Both the government and private sector must play their part to deliver on the objectives of the New Urban Agenda by prioritising their actions to reflect a city’s unique context, immediate and long term priorities and the created impact to achieve sustainable development.
