China - New law provides opportunities for and tightens enforcement on foreign nationals

The National People’s Congress Standing Committee enacted a new law - the “Exit-Entry Administration Law” on June 30, 2012, scheduled to be implemented on July 1, 2013. The new law emphasizes stricter enforcement over foreign visitors / workers and imposes harsher penalties for illegal employment. It also introduces a new visa category to attract foreign talent and provides an opportunity to apply for permanent residence status in China.
