Australia - Living-Away-From-Home reforms: Short-term reprieve but not for temporary residents

Global Watch ()

The Government announced further details in relation to the proposed reform of the Living-Away-From-Home (LAFH) rules yesterday.

We have discussed the changes with Treasury today and the transitional rules are unlikely to apply to temporary residents.

This means that temporary residents will no longer be able to claim LAFH concessions from July 1, 2012.

Draft legislation to introduce the reforms announced in November 2011 together with the announcement last night is expected soon.
