On June 28, 2013, the Australian Department of Immigration and Citizenship’s Migration Amendments (Temporary Sponsored Visas) Bill 2013 was passed by Parliament and given Royal Assent. The Bill makes several amendments that went into effect on July 1, 2013 to the 457 temporary work visa program. Among the many amendments, the Bill introduced enforceable obligations for visa sponsors.  It is crucial that users of the 457 visa program understand the impact of these changes, and how to maintain compliance with the myriad of requirements while avoiding sanctions and potential fines.
