Going for growth in Asia: Navigating the way
This report, based on a survey of 281 senior executives conducted on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers by the Economist Intelligence Unit in February and March 2008, examines what is driving M&A in Asia's financial services sector. It also reveals the future intentions of players in Asia's financial services arena and sheds light on the M&A environment and how that environment is likely to change in the coming years. Among the key findings of the survey:
- M&A activity involving Asian financial institutions is at unprecedented levels.
- Asian firms are undaunted by the credit crisis and a sizeable minority of them believe the credit crisis will actually increase the future volume of M&A.
- Most institutions will be targeting wealthy Asian consumers.
- Regulation remains an obstacle.
- Domestic competition is increasingly important as a motivating factor in M&A in Asia's financial services market.
