The European business initiative on taxation (EBIT)

EBIT is a high-profile, cross-industry, pan-European working group of 20-plus Tax Directors — from leading European-based companies — whose aim is to help modernise Europe’s direct tax policy. On taxation, a single European market still does not exist. In practice, this means that multinational corporations doing business in the EU need to navigate their way through (up to) 27 different national tax administrations and administrative requirements, and widely differing national interpretations of EU tax law, directives and regulations.

EBIT aims to help eliminate remaining tax barriers within the single market and offer practical solutions that help businesses operate more efficiently throughout Europe. It does so by engaging in ongoing technical dialogue and cooperation with the European Commission and the OECD. EBIT’s technical input to EU, OECD and also national policymakers is always rooted in its members’ day-to-day business practice and experience.

PwC acts as EBIT’s secretariat, although it is not a member of EBIT. The secretariat sets the group's work agenda and drafts the position papers with input from its members, and manages relations with key policy officials in the EU and the OECD.

EBIT membership – for whom?

EBIT is intended for Tax Directors (with European responsibilities in leading European-based companies) who  want  to be actively engaged in dialogue with key EU and OECD officials  to  better influence and help modernise Europe’s direct tax policy framework.  In this role, Members meet with peers from across industry — as well as with  members of PwC’s EU Direct Tax Group — to discuss technical issues and help assess the impact of international tax treaties and initiatives on their business.
