Government-driven strategies: Workforce development

Just as CEOs fret about the war for talent, they also recognise that government plays a role in maintaining a country’s pool of available labour, particularly through labour laws, educational support and health care. Indeed, labour laws and education were noted by many of the CEOs we interviewed as key areas for government reform and investment.
  • Workforce health has become a more important issue for many emerging economies, and some of their governments are now creating their own legislative framework to encourage better practices.

  • Years of compulsory schooling has been linked with economic development in emerging markets. But, while low educational levels handicap all job seekers, a degree is not an automatic guarantee of a job in many major emerging markets.
