| Giving back to the community The anchor of our community programmes, the Community Outreach Programme (COP) started in 2001. In the COP, our people reach out through personal engagement with underprivileged children in selected children’s homes by volunteering their time to tutor the children, increasing literacy and confidence, plus lending administrative help at the homes. Coaching tomorrow’s leaders, today We have also been sponsoring the Young Enterprise (YE) Programme since 2006. The YE programme is coordinated by the American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) It is an innovative, extra-curricular activity for secondary school students who are selected to form a 'mini' company at school. The sponsorship includes participation by our people to act as advisors / coaches, who will provide practical insights and guidance to the students and enable them to gain an understanding of the role of an entrepreneur. PwC also runs workshops on branding and basic accounting for all participating schools Partnering for sustainability As a non-profit volunteer relief organisation providing medical and humanitarian services worldwide, MERCY Malaysia (MM) sought PwC’s help to enhance its governance and control framework. In 2007, we worked with MM on a pro-bono basis for sustainability and capability building. Instead of just providing MM with a report, PwC conducted a Process Mapping course, followed by a workshop to apply the theory learnt in documenting the process map for disaster relief operations. Our efforts assisted MERCY Malaysia in achieving the Humanitarian Accountability Partnership (HAP) certification – a first in Asia. PwC has also responded to appeals for natural disaster relief work by raising and matching funds. Honouring sustainable business practices PwC Malaysia has been a working partner for the StarBiz-ICR Malaysia Corporate Responsibility Awards since 2008, which advocates responsible business practices and recognises companies with outstanding CR practices. Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia, Dato' Johan Raslan, is the Chairman of ICR Malaysia. "By emphasising the language of corporate responsibility, we wish to encourage companies to focus more on thinking about what business they are in and how they choose to operate that business. Thinking about CR helps our businesses consider how we go about doing the business we have chosen, and to inject responsible behaviours into the value chain." - Dato’ Johan Raslan, Executive Chairman of PwC Malaysia |
