Local education programmes

PwC people around the world are involved in hundreds of local initiatives that help young people develop the confidence and ability to make a positive contribution to their communities. PwC's involvement in educational programmes generally takes one of three forms. Learn more by clicking on each of the tabs below.

Mentoring

Chile: In partnership with the local United Way, PwC professionals in Chile work with young people in the community to teach courses in accounting, personal finance, and entrepreneurship.

UK: PwC volunteers mentor students in Year 11 of school providing career counselling, goal setting, and insights into the business world. Mentors are certified by the local Education Business Partnership to ensure the programme is delivered to a high standard.

US: The "Impact" programme targets talented African-American high school juniors. PwC mentors help the students navigate the college planning process and provide them with the necessary tools and strategies for success in college and beyond.

Australia: GOALS (Growing Opportunities and Learning Skills) focuses on students from youth up to grade 9 in economically disadvantaged schools. The programme enables students to meet business people outside their immediate community and provides an opportunity to consider wider vocational and education options.

The Netherlands: "Giving Back" is aimed at students between 15 - 18 years of age, mostly ethnic minorities. The goal is to help the students complete high school and then enter post-secondary education; secure internships, apprenticeships, and vocational training; or enter the business world.

Greece: The U in Action programme has three elements: helping bridge the gap that exists in Greece between the educational system and the employment market; providing support to deprived children; and educating young people on environmental issues.

On the job training

Brazil: Each year PwC Brazil offers ten local students the opportunity to gain real work experience as administrative assistants in various departments of the firm. A local NGO monitors the programme and provides counseling and family assistance to the students.

Junior achievement

Uganda: A JA programme has just been established in Uganda with PwC as the biggest corporate sponsor to date. Twenty PwC people have been trained and assigned to local schools.

Canada: In 2007 144 PwC professionals volunteered 1786 hours. They met weekly with a group of students in the evening to guide them through the process of starting a small business.
