Every activity that a business undertakes, both as an organisation and through its people, have an impact on the communities in which it operates. PwC believes that it is our responsibility to ensure that these activities support strong, thriving and diverse communities. We do this by:
- Encouraging employees to become involved in community activities
- Working in partnership with community organisations by providing support, expertise, skills, and cash
- Engaging the community in a dialogue on issues of local concern
- Promoting the adoption of CR practices within the general business community
- Procuring supplies and raw materials from local suppliers
Education is a particular focus of PwC’s community involvement. Such is the case with our most ambitious community project to date,
Educating the Children of Darfur. A collaboration between PwC and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, the project’s aim is to build a fully-functioning primary school program that will serve up to 20,000 refugee children displaced by fighting in their homeland of Darfur. While the formal education provided to the Darfur refugee children is immensely valuable, the schools also acts as a haven from the desolation that surrounds them and a safe place where the children can begin to imagine a better future for themselves.
