Fraud in the public sector
As the economy declines, new threats emerge. When economic survival is threatened (either for the organisation or for the individual), the line separating acceptable and unacceptable behaviour can, for some, become blurred. In addition, fraud and other types of economic crime have become a focus of criminal activity in recent years; criminal organisations that profit from fraud view the current economic conditions as an opportunity, not a threat.
In this climate, it is essential that government/state-owned enterprises evaluate the fraud risks that they face and take action to manage these risks effectively.
