PwC is a strong brand in our markets and we have a responsibility to show leadership, both as a business and as a community member. We are committed to making a positive difference, based upon our core competencies and values.
The Africa Central corporate responsibility programme was launched in July 2008 in line with global PwC objectives. Since then, we have embedded corporate responsibility into our strategy, focusing on education and community issues as well as health issues and famine and disaster relief.
In all of our markets, a considerable number of PwC staff participate in corporate responsibility projects and willingly donate generously. Many of these donations are matched in kind by PwC firms.
The Frafraha Foster Home has a population of about 50 children aged 4-24. Some of these children are also pupils of the main basic school in the Frafraha community.
PwC Ghana has over the past two years helped the foster home in several ways. This year, the team decided to motivate the children by giving the home a facelift to improve their environment.
The facelift included painting buildings, tiling the bathroom and toilets, weeding the compound, and supplying new bed sheets and pillows. The children and staff were also treated to lunch and counseling sessions.
The Frafraha Children’s Home and Christ Faith Mission Basic School is the only basic school in the Frafraha community and currently educates over 800 students. Following PwC’s donation last year of 200 pieces of school furniture, Frafraha Basic school headmistress Nancy Ofori-Dumfuo identified electrification of the school as its next most pressing need. PwC’s contribution towards electrification this year means that food stuffs can be stored safely and children can study with the aid of ceiling fans and electric lights.
