Fraud Investigation

With the advent of the internet and fully automated accounting systems incorporating electronic funds transfers, opportunities for corporate fraud have increased dramatically. The detection and minimisation of fraud is now an integral part of business life. When a fraud is identified, it is often the case that poorly resourced law enforcement agencies will require the victims of fraud to undertake initial investigations themselves, to quantify losses and identify potential suspects. Recovery of funds from perpetrators or insurers will, therefore, often require the involvement of independent investigators.

How PwC can help you

We can assist by:

  • Investigating the incident and identifying how the fraud occurred, and the steps that can be taken to prevent further incidences
  • Preparing a full independent expert report for submission in court, quantifying the loss, setting out the relevant issues and presenting and explaining in simple terms complex accounting concepts in the context of the fraud
  • Ensuring that any evidence obtained is in a form that can be presented in legal proceedings
  • Providing a formal ‘brief of evidence’ for a civil action, or to the relevant law enforcement agency
  • Finding assets that may provide loss recovery and pursuing recovery action
  • Preparing and negotiating an insurance claim
We have undertaken numerous successful fraud, corruption and related investigations for clients in both private enterprise and the public sector. We provide independent, expert advice and work with clients, their legal and insurance advisors and law enforcement agencies to tackle fraud decisively.
