Sector Review: Hospitality, Leisure and Tourism

This year’s measures lay further emphasis on marketing and promotion and reform of the air access. In that respect Government intends to develop a Tourism Strategy by March 2008 which will include the following:

  • Strategies for sustainable development
  • Promotion and marketing
  • Efficient land use and strategic environment assessment

Other measures will include:

    • The setting up of an Air Access Policy Committee
    • The setting up of “Events Mauritius Limited” which will be responsible for organising special activities to enhance the destination
    • A contribution of Rs 300 million to MTPA with the aim to boost tourism promotion and increase occupancy rates by attracting visitors during the low season
    • Investment in the creation and rehabilitation of tourists’ attractions and amenities
    • A provision of Rs 35 million for a branding campaign
    • Earmarking of the first Tourist Village at Belle Mare
