Background
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) is a coalition of 160 international companies united by a shared commitment to sustainable development via the three pillars of economic growth, ecological balance and social progress. Since its inception in 1995, it has become the pre-eminent business voice on sustainable development issues.
PricewaterhouseCoopers involvement
PricewaterhouseCoopers has been a member of the WBCSD since March 2001. Our active involvement in some of the WBCSD's working groups dates back even further. In 2003, PricewaterhouseCoopers' Global CEO Sam DiPiazza became co-chair of the WBCSD's Accountability & Reporting working group and we continue to play a role in the Energy & Climate working group. In addition, we have a representative on the WBCSD's Young Managers Team, which in 2003 is addressing the issue of business responsibility for water issues.
