Computer systems and other electronic devices often feature as an important source of evidence for fraud suspicion or investigation, employment law issues, litigation or disputes. Obtaining this evidence quickly, completely, and in a legally admissible manner requires thorough forensic methodologies and equipment. Unfortunately, most in-house experts do not have the expertise, the investigative techniques or the resources to undertake such evidence recovery procedures.
We are one of the few organisations outside law enforcement to offer a complete computer forensic service. Our skill in this area has on many occasions located valuable evidence from computer systems which were previously believed to be clean. Our software and methodologies aim to gather evidence quickly, completely, and in a legally admissible manner.
How PwC can help you
Our dispute analysis team has extensive experience with the requirements of government clients – including the execution of police search warrants and civil Anton Piller orders. Our software and procedures are thorough and flexible, and provide evidence in a legally admissible format. Our team members are experienced in dealing with sensitive information and senior members possess Federal Government security clearances.
We search computer systems and other electronic devices for evidence using our forensic methodologies and specialised equipment. This process involves the identification, collection, analysis and management of a vast amount of electronic information. If evidence is located, it is captured and a report is prepared detailing our findings.
Our methodology will vary depending upon the unique characteristics of each matter. However, we will usually:
- Assess the electronic environment
- Acquire the forensic image or capture critical data using alternative methodologies
- Analyse the forensic image and/or reconstruct the target computer system
- Preparation of a report. If required, this service also includes providing professional expert evidence in court proceedings
