EU MAP - The EU Accession Forum

PricewaterhouseCoopers Bulgaria has created a cross-industry platform for investors to help companies seize the opportunities and manage the risks that arise in the period up to and immediately after Bulgaria's accession to the EU.

The forum will focus on Direct and Indirect Taxation and is aimed at discussing the main tax issues that will be generated by the tax legislation that will come into force as of the accession date.

The forum is hosted by the tax team within PricewaterhouseCoopers Bulgaria and supported by the International Tax Network, which has had a successful track record in other accession countries.

The EU Accession Forum will primarily aim to:

  • Provide an informational background regarding EU directives on direct taxes and access to information regarding international restructuring models and tax incentives conversion
  • Promote information on best practices in relation to VAT and other indirect taxes in view of Bulgaria's accession to the EU
  • Initiate a constructive and fact-based dialogue with the tax authorities to promote easy-to-use and cost-efficient VAT, excise duties and customs regimes
  • Give access to technical information and ensure a clear understanding of the new EU harmonized VAT, excise duties and customs provisions
  • Provide a clear outline of the compliance requirements that arise from the introduction of the new legislation, as well as of the associated administrative burden (e.g. recapitulative list for intra-community transactions, supplementary information to be stated in the VAT return, Intrastat returns etc.)
  • Raise awareness of tax efficient restructuring of international assignments from an individual taxation viewpoint
  • Discuss possible tax optimisation scenarios that will be possible under the new legislation for each industry group

PricewaterhouseCoopers Bulgaria would like to invite you to join the Forum. Membership will allow full participation in the activities of the Forum and the associated working groups. Members will send and agree their own objectives, work program and timeframe for meetings and conference calls. They will also agree on the resources and time commitment required to complete the set of objectives.

Benefits of group membership:

  • Discuss the problems of the companies with the key policymakers
  • Exchanging views and best-practice experience and developing common positions on issues essential to business
  • Working within a dynamic group; its scale of knowledge and resources and its higher credibility assist in the development of responses to policymakers

What will PricewaterhouseCoopers do?

  • Host and facilitate member meetings
  • Administer the project and coordinate the group's work
  • Provide expert technical input/briefings
  • Facilitate dialogue with Ministry officials
  • Provide timely EU accession information, including PricewaterhouseCoopers' newsflashes, updates and leaflets
