Key points

The Paying taxes study seeks to compare the ease of paying taxes in 178 countries around the world. Some of the key findings from this year’s report include:
  • Where in the world paying taxes is easiest, and most difficult
  • Corporate income tax is only part of the burden of taxes on business
  • Tax reform is widespread
  • Ways of easing the compliance burden
  • The need for businesses to be more transparent in communicating their total tax contribution

Businesses need to be more transparent

Our report concludes that businesses need to be more transparent in communicating their total tax contribution, to help governments understand their real economic footprint. More and better information about the taxes paid and the cost of compliance is essential to understating how tax systems affect business.

In this year’s report, the individual rankings for each of the components of the paying taxes indicator are included to add transparency and clarity to the understating of the data generated. A full list of the rankings and their components is included in Appendix 1 of the report.
