HIPAA's impact in the spotlight: Fraud and abuse provisions

HIPAA is changing the way healthcare is insured, documented, compensated, communicated, and policed. Signed into law by President Clinton on August 21, 1996, HIPAA is intended to: curtail healthcare fraud and abuse, enforce standards for health information, guarantee the security and privacy of health information, assure health insurance portability for employed persons.
