How to capture value through software R&D

How to capture value through software R&D* is the first article in a series of whitepapers written by PricewaterhouseCoopers' US software industry practice to identify and discuss value leakage points across the software industry supply chain.

The article's main objective is to identify the central role that R&D plays in software organizations and raise the issue of R&D transparency and governance within the organization. It is PwC's view that through effective R&D value management, company leadership can enhance shareholder value. The article looks at opportunities to gain greater R&D efficiency and puts forth a framework based on a set of five dimensions: strategy, structure, process, people and technology. In addition, the article highlights the way forward, including a suggested organizational assessment along three work streams: Governance & Change Management, Process Assessment and Accounting & Tax Considerations.
