Paying taxes 2006: The global picture

Paying taxes - The global picture Download Paying taxes (619kb)
Taxes are essential to finance public services but there are good and bad ways to collect them. Evidence suggests that simpler tax systems promote economic growth and can help achieve a win:win for governments and industry.

Paying taxes: The global picture, jointly published by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) and The World Bank Group, looks at the relative ease of paying taxes in 175 countries worldwide. The methodology used to assess the total tax rate in each country is based on the principles of the PwC Total tax contribution framework.

The results focus on the need for governments to ensure the effectiveness of the tax systems they implement, and for companies to appreciate the benefits of making tax reporting more transparent.

The Paying taxes survey forms part of the World Bank's Doing Business report.
