Preventing noncommunicable diseases in the workplace through diet and physical activity

Workplace health promotion programs that target physical activity and eating habits have been shown to be effective at preventing obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular disease — risk factors that lead to illness and premature death.

This report, the outcome of an event organized by the World Health Organization and the World Economic Forum, summarizes the evidence supporting the workplace as a key setting for interventions designed to prevent noncommunicable diseases. Enhanced employee productivity, lower medical costs and improved corporate image are driving senior management to invest in such programs.
