A record amount of money changed hands in the metals industry in 2004, with 166 disclosed deals worth a total US$37 billion – more than double the US$16 billion that was traded in 2003.

In the first edition of Forging ahead, PricewaterhouseCoopers analysed mergers and acquisitions in the global metals industry throughout 2004. It has also looked at the principal trends shaping the industry and likely to stimulate further M&A activity.
