There was little sign of the sector pausing for breath in 2007 with 441 of the total 768 deals occurred in the latter half of the year. 2007 saw deal value surged 25% to US$372.5 billion from US$298.8 billion in 2006 and nearly nine times from US$43 billion in 2003. There were fewer mega-deals, reflecting the complexity of getting really huge deals over the political and regulatory hurdles; however, this was more than compensated by a rise in the number of mid-sized deal.
