The global deals marketplace

In the first half of 2007, the global deals market looked likely to enjoy yet another record-setting year. Then the bottom fell out of the US sub-prime mortgage lending business, sending shock waves throughout the international banking community. As credit tightened, several private equity firms were forced to renegotiate or even abandon deals.

Nevertheless, PwC believes that the market will rebound. The fundamental factors driving M&A activity have not changed, although the balance of power may shift from private equity to corporate deal-makers and new players from cash-rich developing countries. This paper examines the overarching trends in global deal-making, including the challenges and opportunities in key geographic regions and industries.
