PRESS RELEASE
11 December 2007
One of the established initiatives of PricewaterhouseCoopers is their annual Blood Donation Day in their offices all over Cyprus. On 11 December they organised blood donation in their offices in Nicosia, Limassol and Paphos. In Larnaca, the blood donation took place at the General Hospital of Larnaca.
The Minister of Health, Mr Costas Kadis who attended the blood donation which took place at the Nicosia offices of PwC, in his short address emphasized the importance of blood donation. As he stated "Voluntary blood donation shows the sensitivity of each person and is a gift of life ."
The Minister congratulated PwC and its people for their contribution and characteristically stated that, "The sufficiency of reserves in our Blood Banks depend solely on volunteerism. Thus bright examples, as is yours today, should be followed by other organisations as well."
Mr Phidias Pilides, Chief Executive Officer of PwC in Cyprus, thanked the Minister of Health for honouring the firm with his presence at the event and noted that:
"The level and quality of services offered to the Health industry is a challenge for every modern society. And we should all contribute to this: state, organisations and individuals, according to their own abilities.
For our people, professionalism goes hand in hand with social sensitivity. We listen to the needs of the society in which we live and work, offering our support where is needed through voluntary participation and contribution. In sectors such as Health, Environment, Education, Culture. Indicatively, at this point I would like to mention that PwC people around the world offered towards volunteerism 217,600 hours for the year 2007. Also our organisation, on a worldwide basis, donated an amount of 33 million dollars towards charitable causes.
Donation of blood is a gift of life. And some of us are in real need of it. In PwC we feel is our duty to support them."
We thank all our 115 blood donors, colleagues from our offices in all towns as well as our associates from Abacus and our clients from Eurobank and Unicroft who support our efforts with their participation. We also thank the blood units of the General Hospitals of Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos for their assistance and invaluable services. We wish them strength and all success in the kind cause they are serving.
