Press Release
10 April 2007
Corporate Social Responsibility is part of the culture and the vision of every modern organisation which aims to assist towards building a better society for the new generations.
In Cyprus, the organisation with more than 700 experienced members, has been awarded many times for its dynamism, the development and quality of its services as well as its support towards the growth of the society and the improvement of the environment: by volunteerism, by supporting professional and social organisations and by sharing knowledge and experience from within its worldwide network.
On 10 April, marking the beginning of a new institution for the organisation, PwC organised a tree-planting initiative, in the Alambra region. More than 100 volunteers, members of PwC, took part in this initiative and contributed towards the efforts of improving and protecting our environment. The event was honoured with the presence of the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and Environment, Mr Fotis Fotiou.
The Minister, in his short greeting during the lunch that followed, congratulated PwC and its people for their initiative and stressed the importance of volunteerism in the environmental area. As he mentioned “The environment is the quality of life. As a state we have an obligation to react to the environmental destructions of our planet. And the reforestation is a sector that we should all work for.”
Mr Tassos Televantides, Deputy Managing Partner of PwC, thanking the Minister for his presence at the event, noted that “Even though Cyprus is a small country, nevertheless, we are seriously concerned with this issue because the risks for the economy, the maintenance of the balance in our environmental system and the health of all of us, are real. Constituting one of the most appropriate examples for the necessity of a long-term planning, so that it eliminates the probability of irreversible repercussions.”
Mr Televantides continued by saying that “the concepts forest, natural environment and green, are similar with the mental and bodily health, the effective operation of the economy and the high quality of life. As PwC we believe it’s our commitment, as a responsible organisation, to work towards maintaining a sustainable environment in our country. Trying to leave the world a little better than we found it. For the generations to come. Besides, this is evident in our message “I plan(t) for the future” ”
We thank all our volunteers-colleagues from our offices in all towns that participated in our effort.
