Conference to explore growth of private label in Irish grocery and how brands are fighting back.
Sunday, January 20, 2008 Checkout Publications, publisher of retail magazine Checkout, has today announced that it will link up with PricewaterhouseCoopers for its 2008 conference. The conference – entitled Private Label, Opportunities & Challenge – will explore the growth of Private Label goods in the Irish retail sector, examine how Irish brands are fighting back, and how Irish food and drink manufacturers and retailers are adapting to the changes in the marketplace. The conference is sponsored by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Ireland’s leading professional services Firm.
The conference will feature presentations from Irish and international retail experts, including Superquinn Executive Chairman Simon Burke, PwC Tax Partner Dermot Reilly, Glanbia Consumer Foods CEO Colin Gordon, ACNielsen Business Insight Director Jonathan Banks, Food Safety Authority CEO Dr John O’Brien, Greencore Group Communications Director Jonathan Grant-Nicholas, FMI Managing Director Charley Stoney, Tim Simmons, Vice Chairman of the Private Label Manufacturers’ Association and Loretta O’Rourke, Head of Technical Supply Base Management, Tesco Ireland.
Delegates at the Checkout Conference 2008 will also hear details of an exclusive piece of research commissioned by Checkout Publications on the area of Private Label and Irish consumer’s views on Private Labels and branded goods. This research, conducted among 1,000 Irish shoppers by TNS mrbi on behalf of Checkout, will provide unparalleled insights into Irish consumers’ views of the Private Label brands on offer, including perceptions on price premiums, branding and quality.
Speaking at the announcement, Checkout Chairman and Publisher Kevin Kelly said: “Private Label brands have grown to become a huge part of the retail offering in stores across Ireland, at both the value and premium ends of the market. Our conference will explore how the consumer reacts to Private Label products in-store, and whether Private Label can ever hope to achieve the incredible loyalty which Irish shoppers have towards Irish brands.”
Dermot Reilly, PwC Tax Partner and Leader of the Firm’s Business and Wealth Services Practice added:
“As Ireland’s leading professional services Firm, we are delighted to partner with Ireland’s leading retail publication for what is widely considered the major event in the Irish retail calendar. The Retail Industry has played a significant role in the growth of the Irish economy in recent years and there is an even greater need for businesses to have appropriate tax and wealth management structures in place to ensure that shareholder value is protected and, where possible, enhanced. Conference attendees will learn about the Golden Rules of effective tax management in order to protect their business and wealth”.
The Checkout Conference 2008 takes place in the Four Seasons Hotel, Dublin, on Tuesday, 29 January 2008.
