PricewaterhouseCoopers’ new CEO pledges to build further on firm’s success

Leading Professional Services firm PricewaterhouseCoopers today announced Mark Johnson as its new Senior Partner and CEO, effective 1 July 2008 for four years.

Mr Johnson was elected by the firm’s partnership to succeed the existing Senior Partner and CEO Tony Harrington who has served in the role for the maximum allowed period of eight years.

Mr Johnson is currently National Managing Partner (Businesses). He has had a distinguished, 30 year career with PwC serving in many Australian and global leadership roles including National Assurance Leader, and member of the PwC Global Assurance Leadership team.

Mr Harrington said he is extremely confident Mr Johnson, who has served a number of Australia’s leading public companies during his career at PwC, would continue the firm’s client focus, built on delivering value and investing in enduring client relationships.

“Mark Johnson has a deep commitment to the business and has been an integral part of my leadership team,” Mr Harrington said.

“With extensive client experience, and both local and global market knowledge, he is highly qualified to guide the firm and its clients through a changing market environment.”

Mr Johnson vowed to continue to grow and develop the firm’s exceptional talent, creating a culture of opportunity and achievement envied by corporate Australia.

“PwC is extremely well positioned for the future. I am passionate about inspiring, developing and challenging our people as we stay focused on our strategy to 2012 and beyond,” Mr Johnson said.

“While Australia remains well placed to weather a global economic downturn, we need to be prepared for changing market conditions that will test our agility and resolve. I will ensure PwC continues to provide leadership and guidance to our clients to help them perform well throughout 2008 and into the future.”

Mr Johnson paid tribute to Tony Harrington’s leadership. “I would like to thank our outgoing CEO Tony Harrington, who has led this firm with distinction for the past eight years and whose outstanding legacy I am fortunate to inherit,” Mr Johnson said.

PwC has experienced unprecedented growth under Tony Harrington’s leadership in an environment of significant regulatory and market change for the profession. PwC’s revenues today are over 50% greater than its nearest competitor. The success has stemmed from a focus on listening to the needs of clients and staff and driving a culture of continuous improvement. In recognition of this, in March 2008 PwC was awarded ‘Market Leader’ in the BRW Client Choice Awards.
