PRESS RELEASE
13 November 2007
Corporate Social Responsibility is part of the culture and the vision of every modern organisation which aims to assist towards building a better society for the new generations. The change in the climatic conditions that we all experience during the last years, constitutes one of the most important geopolitical questions of our times. A worldwide environmental problem that certainly also concerns the business world.
Our organisation, with more than 800 experienced members, has been awarded many times for its dynamism, the development and quality of its services as well as its support towards the growth of the society and the improvement of the environment: by volunteerism, by supporting professional and social organisations and by sharing knowledge and experience from within its worldwide network.
PwC Cyprus are establishing their tree planting activity “I plan(t) for the future” as one of our annual volunteering events. Last April we organised our first tree-planting activity at Alambra region. Following that, in July 2007, during our “Business and Environment” conference, we made a collective commitment to make tree planting an annual event and contribute to the reforestation of the areas that were destroyed by the fires during last summer.
With the empowerment of the responsibility to leave this world better than we found it, we continue our efforts. On 13 November, we organised our second tree-planting initiative, in the Mosfiloti region. More than 130 volunteers, members of PwC, took part in this initiative and contributed towards the efforts of improving and protecting our environment.
In his short address, which was read on his behalf by the Director of the Forestry Department Mr Aristos Ioannou, the Minister of Agriculture, Natural Resources and the Environment congratulated PwC and its people and mentioned, inter alia, the following: “This event should guide us to the right direction, which is none other than the one that leads to the effort of reconstituting our society and creating a well cared environment with healthy specifications, where trees will be a dominating element. Les us not forget that trees represent eternal values and, along with man, define the environment in which both ourselves and future generations will live.”
Mr Phidias Pilides, CEO of PwC, noted that “Sensitivity and mobilisation by all of us are essential requirements for safeguarding our natural environment. The future depends on the present. From the initiatives that we take today, from the consistency of the engagements we undertake. A message that is also evident from our statement “I plan(t) for the future”:
We thank all our volunteers-colleagues from our offices in all towns that participated in our effort.
