NEW YORK, Feb. 14, 2008 – For the fourth consecutive year, PricewaterhouseCoopers has been named to FORTUNE's "100 Best Companies to Work For" list, a prominent annual ranking of top U.S. companies based on employee feedback and corporate culture. PwC ranks number 90 overall and number 31 among large companies on this year's list.
The recognition affirms PwC's culture, which emphasizes high performance and a focus on diversity and inclusion. At the core of the firm's business strategy is a simple tenet: People matter. The firm has shown a continued commitment to professional development, diversity, work/life quality, community service and support for working parents through a broad and deep variety of programs.
"We're extremely proud to again be recognized by FORTUNE," said Dennis Nally, U.S. chairman and senior partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers. "The firm puts tremendous effort toward providing our people — from our newest associates to our most seasoned partners — with a positive career experience. It's gratifying to know that our people identify with and appreciate the initiatives we've put into place that make a real difference."
PwC offers numerous programs, benefits and perks to support its people. Among the initiatives that supported PwC's inclusion on this year's list:
- Enhanced onboarding processes for both new and experienced hires, including “PwC Inside* Welcome Week,” an orientation program for experienced new hires, and a New Hire Portal loaded with video stories about the firm's people, clients, what to expect — complete with some embarrassing moments—to help new hires feel welcome before their first day.
- 1*/30,000, a firmwide community service initiative to promote corporate and public giving, volunteerism, and provide support to the community as One Firm. Over the past two years alone, more than 13,000 PwC partners and staff in 68 U.S. offices contributed in excess of 100,000 volunteer hours to approximately 400 community projects.
- Women's Leadership Conferences that bring female staff together to discuss issues that affect them specifically and recognize their importance to the firm — as leaders, mentors, coaches and developers of the next generation of women leaders.
- Numerous recognition programs, including: The Chairman's Award, given to staff who have performed at an extraordinary level and demonstrated exemplary behavior; employee referral bonuses, which provide cash rewards for referrals that result in the hiring of promising new talent or PwC alumni; and Performance Awards, including spot bonuses for contributions above and beyond expectations and year-end incentive awards for employees who consistently demonstrate superior contributions to the firm and its clients.
- Full Circle, an innovative program that allows professionals — both women and men — to take up to five years away from the firm to devote themselves to full-time parenting (or other dependent care) and then rejoin the firm.
- Generous paid time off policies, including three- to four-weeks of vacation and frequent additional time off around holidays to allow people to completely disconnect and take a true break from their work.
- Creative ways of acknowledging people's efforts and enabling greater work/life quality, including: Flexible Fridays to give partners and staff more flexibility in their schedules during the summer months; early office closings for holidays; and flexible work arrangements (FWAs).
- Generous parental leave, including maternity leave that provides new moms (including adoptive mothers) 12 weeks of fully paid time off to bond with their new baby. In addition, the firm offers an additional two weeks to mothers who give birth to multiples (twins or triplets), and three weeks of paternity leave—which remains best in class.
In addition to the FORTUNE list, PwC has been recognized by other distinguished organizations for its people initiatives. The firm won the prestigious Catalyst Award last year for its commitment to women's advancement and retention, and was recently named the number one organization on
Training magazine's list of companies that excel at employee training and development. PwC has also been named to
Working Mother's Best Companies list for 13 consecutive years, including four successive years in the Top 10. Last fall, PwC was named by
BusinessWeek as the best company for internships and number two company to launch a career.
Other accolades that the firm has received include being named multiple times as one of
DiversityInc's Top 50 Companies for Diversity; voted for six consecutive years as the number one ideal employer in its profession in the Universum Undergraduate Survey of business students; receiving the Out & Equal Significant Achievement Award for advancing workplace equality for GLBT employees; and receiving the National Association of Black Accountants (NABA) Corporate Diversity Award.

About the FORTUNE "100 Best Companies to Work For" list
To pick the “100 Best Companies to Work For,” FORTUNE works with the Great Place to Work Institute to conduct what it describes as "the most extensive employee survey in corporate America." Two-thirds of a company’s score is based on a survey of hundreds of randomly selected employees from the company. The other third is based on the company’s responses to the Institute’s Culture Audit, which includes detailed questions about pay and benefit programs and a series of open-ended questions about such things as hiring practices, methods of internal communications, training, recognition programs and diversity efforts.
Any company that is at least seven years old with more than 1,000 U.S. employees is eligible. For more information, go to
