23 March 2005 - Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation today announced the appointment of PricewaterhouseCoopers as Official Sponsor of the Games and presenter of the Melbourne 2006 Chairman’s Club.
PricewaterhouseCoopers’s sponsorship will facilitate strategic links between Games sponsors and Melbourne’s business community to maximise the commercial outcomes of the Games.
“PricewaterhouseCoopers has been actively involved since August 2004 as the official provider of professional advisory services to the Games. The PricewaterhouseCoopers team continues to deliver important advice to us including risk management, taxation and accounting,” said Mr Ronald J Walker, Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games Corporation Chairman.
“Recent discussions identified a real need for the establishment of a more formal interaction between sponsors and a forum for the maximisation of business initiatives associated with the Games,” said Mr Walker.
The Melbourne 2006 Chairman’s Club will be launched on 16 May 2005 by Victorian Governor John Landy AC, MBE and will become a regular forum for Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games sponsor executives. Key events will provide special insights into the Games, whilst also assisting linkages with wider business initiatives.
PricewaterhouseCoopers will co-develop and manage the Chairman’s Club program.
Andrew Hagger, Managing Partner PricewaterhouseCoopers, Melbourne, said that PricewaterhouseCoopers is confident the Chairman’s Club will facilitate significant commercial benefits to the Games Sponsor Family and indeed to Melbourne’s business community at large.
“The Melbourne 2006 Commonwealth Games is a sophisticated event already attracting the commitment and support from an impressive group of companies. PricewaterhouseCoopers is pleased to step up our involvement with the Games from Provider to Sponsor and we are committed to the delivery of this important commercial initiative,” said Andrew Hagger, Managing Partner PricewaterhouseCoopers, Melbourne.
The Games will be a once-in-a-lifetime chance to witness 4500 elite athletes from 71 nations taking part in the XVIII Commonwealth Games to be held from 15-26 March 2006.
